Case History of Corus Millscale Pump Impeller and Shaft


This photo clearly illustrates the damage to the impeller vanes and shaft sleeves by impingement of solids and cavitation while in service.

Shaft sleeve prepared and taped ready for application of Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal).

1311 (Ceramic R-Metal) being machined after a two-hour cure. Left any longer, a diamond tip would be required to machine this product.

Application of Belzona 1131 (Bearing Metal) which has graphite and PTFE impregnated in the product to assist with rotation, bringing the impeller back to tolerance.

This shows the impeller and shaft reblasted and taped ready for conditioner to be applied.

The vanes have here been repaired with Belzona 1111 (Supermetal).

Impeller conditioned in readiness for an application of Belzona 2141 (Cavitation Coating). This rubberised material prevents cavitation by repelling its action.

Here we can see the finished item ready for service. The only restriction to Belzona is your own imagination. This cost-effective repair was a quarter of the price of a replacement unit, and will last four times as long.
